Integrated: Egyptian Mummification comic strips are due on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Tuesday, September 27

Language Arts:  The spelling test is Thursday.  Students should study a little each night.

I've been teaching a writing technique from Image Grammar called Brush Strokes.  The brush strokes assignment is due tomorrow.

Students should spend 20 to 30 minutes on the pre-write of their second memoir.  This could be in the form of a web, bubble graph, outline, notes, or some other technique.

Mysteries of History:  The South America map quiz is Friday.  Tomorrow we will be making SimMummies!

Monday, September 26

Language Arts:  The Weekly Word Study is due tomorrow.  Students should come prepared with an idea for a second memoir.  First memoirs were returned with comments and a rubric.

Mysteries of History: Central America quizzes were returned.  Students worked on the South America map study guide today.  The quiz will be on Friday.

Today I taught students how to use notecards for research.  We practiced with Ancient Egypt, and we'll be spending some time this week learning about that culture.

Co-op:  Make sure to turn in a final copy of your goals by tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 14

Language Arts: Final copies of memoirs were due today.  Our first spelling test is tomorrow.

Mysteries of History: We discussed the Aztec in preparation for our ADI on Friday.  I also gave notes on the early explorers of the Americas. Both sets of notes are below.

For ADI #1, students have the option to purchase lunch at El Noa Noa, a mexican restaurant near the Museo de las Americas.  The cost is $10 and includes a drink.  The special menu is below. If cost is an issue, please let me know.  Students may also bring a lunch on Friday.

Monday, September 12

Language Arts:  I taught students the process that we will use for studying spelling words.  Students will choose five words and complete a Weekly Word Study each week.  This is due tomorrow.

Friday, September 9

Language Arts:  I taught a lesson on editing today.  Final drafts of memoirs are due on Wednesday.

We are starting spelling next week.  For students who have trouble finding spelling words, here is a link to a great list of frequently misspelled words.

Mysteries of History:  We'll continue building artifacts in class on Monday.

ADI #1 is Friday, Sept. 16.  ADI stands for All Day Integrated, and we usually go on a field trip related to our science and social studies classes.  My class will be going to the Museo de las Americas in Denver for a class on the Aztecs.  We'll leave around 10:45, and we'll be back by 2:00. Send me an email if you want to come along with us.

Thursday, September 8

Language Arts:  Students shoud spend at least 20 minutes tonight looking at memoir revisions.  Make sure to look at the conclusion (we discussed this in class today) and consider adding dialogue, interior monologue, and blocking.

Mysteries of History: Students finalized ideas for their assigned culture universal, and I collected AS #2 and AS #3 .  Students began working on AS #4, which is due tomorrow.  We will spend class time tomorrow building artifacts, so students should bring in any special materials they require.
