Language Arts:  8th grade seminar began today.  I gave an introduction to the class and began a parts of the speech review.  This week I will be reviewing nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  Students should finish the noun packet for homework.

Mysteries of History:  Outlines are due tomorrow.  The quiz over the provinces and territories of Canada will be on Friday.

Monday, February 13

Language Arts:  I am checking book logs this week.  Students should have written down the titles, authors, pages and genres of books they have read during the second trimester.   

Mysteries of History: Students should be working on LTP research at home each night this week.  I will be checking notecards on Thursday.  I recommend having 20 to 40 facts for each section of the paper; students should have completed half of this total by Thursday.

Tuesday, February 7

Language Arts:  This is our last week of working on blogs.  Students should have a total of 8 posts and 9 comments completed by this Friday.

I will be checking book logs on Monday, Feb. 13.  

Mysteries of History: Yesterday, students took a quiz on the countries of Central America. Also, we began our work on the LTP.  Students are in the process of choosing a topic.  A copy of my handout is below.

This Friday, February 3 will be our first All Day Integrated (ADI #1).  We will going to the Museo de las Americas for a class on the Aztec and see some art from Latin American artists.  Students have the opportunity to have lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant, El Noa Noa.  The cost is $10 for an entree and drink. Students can share entrees or bring their own lunch.  The menu is below.

Monday, January 30

Language Arts:  Weekly Word Study is due tomorrow.  Our spelling test will be on Thursday.

Students should complete 2 more blog posts and 3 more comments by the end of the week.  

Mysteries of History:  The mummification comic strip is due tomorrow.

 Today I gave notes on the earliest people and explorers in the Americas. See below for a copy of the notes.

Language Arts:  Students are continuing to work on their blogs this week.  By the end of the week, each student should have completed 4 posts total.  In addition, students should post comments on at least 3 other blogs.  Students can access all of the blogs through this link:

Mysteries of HIstory:  We have been studying Ancient Egypt using the culture universals.  Today, we continued our study of Egpytian mummification by creating Sim-mummies.  The reflection sheet is due tomorrow.  A copy of it is below.

Wednesday, January 18

Language Arts:  The spelling test is tomorrow.  Students should complete at least 2 blog posts by the end of class on Friday.

Mysteries of History: Today students examined artifacts from the other team and tried to determine what they mean.  Students will be applying their knowledge of culture universals to Ancient Egypt later this week.

Thursday, January 12

Language Arts:  We are in the process of signing up for blogs.  If anyone did not get a chance to sign up for an Edublogs account, please sign up at home for a free account at edublogs.org . We'll continue working on blogs in class tomorrow.

Mysteries of History:  We have been working on an artifact project.  Students have been divided into two teams. Each team has created a culture and will now create artifacts to give clues about the culture.  Please bring in any materials you might need to create your artifact tomorrow.

Monday, January 9

Language Arts: The Weekly Word Study is due tomorrow. 

Students should be thinking about subjects/topics for a blog they will be creating.

Mysteries of History:  Students should finish Assignment Sheet #1.

Co-op:  If you didn't send back the sheet with your preference for conference times, please contact me.

Thursday, January 5

Language Arts:  Final copies of portfolio reflections are due tomorrow.  We will have a little computer lab time if students need it.

Mysteries of History:  We analyzed the 5 mystery objects that students brought in today.

Co-op:  Please make sure you have sent back the sheet for your preferred conference time.  If you don't have the sheet, you can email me your top 3 choices.
